It seems to vary according to the part of the country and whether you live in the parish you get married in. Also whether you use the priest belonging to that church or bring in a different one. There's usually a price for the use of the church and a separate one for the priest. I'm getting my grandmother to speak to the parish secretary and see what the going rate is where we are getting married.

I think missies on here are paying anything from €150-300. I think around €200 is the norm from what I have seen. Depends on how much spare cash you have, but even €150 is plenty for 40 minutes work!

The priest marrying us has told us it's E50 for him because he doesn't believe these things should cost the earth. We don't have to make a donation to the church either - well he said nothing about it. When we asked about such things when we were booking the date we said "Are there any fees or charges we should know about?" and all he said was the E50. I'm starting to think we're lucky.

We are going to give the priest €250 and the church €250 - we hadn't planned on giving the church anything just didn't think of it to be honest but then we were told that the church expect a donation of between 200 and 300 !!

We had to give the church 150 and to be honest I think even a 100 is enoughto give to priest.

We'll be giving him €150 in a thank you card. I think its enough for a few hours work.

Most churches have a leaflet covering wedding costs these days!

I was a bit taken aback to receive one earlier this year, but thinking about it it really helped. There's a suggested minimum contribution for the priest and sacristan. What they suggest would have been what I'd have handed the priest in an envelope anyway. But it's helpful as now I can do two seperate envelopes. Apparently if I put it all in one envelope they don't divvy it, they assume its theirs, so I'd have had sacristan asking for his.

Suggested donation are 150 min for priest, and 50 min for sacristan.

Right so after seeing these posts my Priest & Church's wages have been cut!!! €200 each is what they are getting!!! If the priest needs alter boys or any of that sort of stuff he can pay for them out of the 200. May God strike me down but what is the sacristan?? Jesus my father would kill me if he found out I asked that!!!!!

The sacristan is the caretaker, he will open church on the day and set up. I was going to give 200 in an envelope to the priest and thought he'd sort all who needed their cut out of that. But apparently if I dod that the sacristan will ask for his payment so I better not!

Our church is €500 :yikes2 and we have to provide our own candles :ranting I think it's CRAZY!!!!!

I was going to give the priest €150 if he is attending the reception and €200 if not.
