azriel wrote:my friends got married earlier this year and on the priest's suggestion, they skipped the communion part of the mass. He said to them, " no one comes to a wedding to go to mass" when they told me about it- i thought that was awful and it would be half a wedding but i was wrong! They had everything a wedding mass has, readings, gospel, homily, vows, prayers of faithful etc. Just no consecration and walking up for communion bit. and honestly no one noticed the difference. even the religious people thought it was lovely. it did shave bout 20 mins off the length of time in the church.
That is what we are doing, but only because h2b is lutheran. The priest gave us the option, and about 95% of people wouldn't take communion anyway, so we scrapped it, so our ceremony will be nice and short! Only the old grandparents and aunts will even notice it is gone, but I have warned them already not to expect feeding at the church!

Exactly! Even at the Royal wedding, they got married really quickly and then spent the next 40 minutes droning on in some sort of boring mass that nobody cared about. I switched over then, and I think most people in the church switched their brains off!
