Hi Missies,

I just wish to clarify a few points with other missies about the legal and religious requirements. We have registered our intent to marry which is taking place in April. We've booked our pre-marriage course which is taking place in March. Our celebrant is a priest who is a friend of the family and lives abroad so we don't really have him to ask many questions. We have to get our pre-nuptial enquiry form done, here is wherein my problems lie. Does this have to be done at a certain stage i.e. after the marriage is registered or after pre-marriage course?

In addition, myself and h2b are from the same home parish. We bought a house about 4 years ago outside of our parish but we don't attend mass there as there is no church in the town and the church is shared among many towns and don't know where it is! If we are getting our pre-nuptial enquiry form we are going to go to our home parish and ask them to do it for us. If we have never attended mass in our new parish and still go to mass in our old parish (when we go), do we still have to get letters of freedom do you think?

I hate all this legal and religious red tape! Who thought marrying could be so bureaucratic!

Hiya I'm not totally sure but Depends where your wedding is taking place are ye getting married in the home parish? If ye know the priest there well I'm sure he'll help ye out. As for the pre nup enquiry there is a question on it about what marriage prep have ye done. Check with the priest where ye are getting married as some only accept accord pre marriage course.

I can't help you a lot but - the civil registration is independent of the religious side, so you can do them both at different times. As far I know you don't need the pre-marriage course done before starting the paper work - you have the date and that should be enough to get started. About the parish I'd ring just the bishops office for your diocese, explain the situation and ask for some advice- the worst they can say is they don't know!

We're getting married in my home parish. When our priest asked where we were living and for how long I told him but made it clear that we don't attend mass in that parish, that we still go home for mass (we're really not big mass goers though..is it wrong to lie to a priest :devil2 ) Anyway, he said that was fine, that h2b would just need to get his letters of freedom/baptismal certs from his home parish which was a big relief!
We're registering next week and as long as that's at least 3 months before the wedding you're sound. As for pre marriage course, we did ours with Avalon before Christmas so it doesn't really matter what order you get things done in! Good luck x
