Hi all

Just wondering if you can help me decide on something? I have 3 bridesmaids, one of whom I was also a bridesmaid for. When she got married we all went looking at bridesmaid/wedding dresses together.
For my turn however I decided to pick the dresses myself as my self and my sister couldnt agree on anything an we werent getting on . The same applies to my wedding dress, I chose it with a friend outside of the group and want to keep it to myself until my wedding day but am getting the cold shoulder act from the bridesmaid that wants to see it. She has offered to do my flowers and says she needs to see my dress for this reason even though she knows what colour it is! I have had little or no help from all concerned and I dont want more arguments because I am just getting on with things my self and I have accepted that there is no interest coming from them.
What to do?

i would stick to your guns on this one, all she needs to know is colour scheme sure my florist doesnt want to see my dress lol!!! i would love to keep it a secret from everyone and then unveil it on the wedding day but i cant because i have a big mouth and get 2 exited and ahead of myself lol!! just tell her no that you really want to keep it to yourself and if you show her you will have to show everyone and also that you have never heard of anyones florist asking to look at the dress!! you do it the way you want to do it its your decision and dont tell anyone tell you otherwise!!

Just tell her in no uncertain terms you don't want anyone else seeing it before the wedding. I was doing what you are - not showing anyone but then when we were in the shop getting BM dresses the lady in the shop just brought out my dress and all my BMs saw it. To be honest I don't mind cause I got a great reaction off them but if you genuinely don't want her to see it don't buckle to her pressurising you! Its your prerogative as the bride (robbed that phrase off muckypup from yesterday )

i think she's just making excuses to see it! another option but you also may want this is to show her a picture of the dress coz as we all know the dresses on the models look completely different than on us. my dress looks nothing like the model picture. but maybe this is an option you dont wanna go down either!!

Ya mad yoke I've kept some things secret but its sooooo hard. One day I turned around and said to my mother I'll tell ya if you can keep it a secret and she just put her fingers in her ears and went lalalalalala! Was hilarious - she knows what shes like!
Keeping the dress a secret from himself is definitely one of the biggest things for me - I'm brutal but I've done it thus far!

ah she sounds great!! well im not showing him, i can keep a secret from him no problem i just told him i had lace and satin on itand he looked at me and said "look at ya u just cant help yourself" lol but i wasnt telling him style or nothin like that just had to tell him something about it and i got it out of my system then lol!!

i think i would be a bit funny about it myself now if i was a bridesmaid and the bride didnt show me the dress... any time iv been bridesmaid iv gone to at least one of the fittings and as a bride (soon) i love having my bridesmaids at the fittings. I have sent a pic to my florist of my dress too as i do believe it does make a difference, unless you know exactly what you want...
surely she'll be helping you into it and will be in the house that morning so will see it anyway, its wont be a big unveiling as such for the bridesmaids.

Hmmm i kinda had the opposite problem!! My chief bridesmaid came dress shopping with me but told me when i made a decision she didnt want to know!! She wants to know as few details about the wedding as possible coz she wants to see it all on the day with fresh eyes not be bored coz she knows it all!!! As she didnt want to know i decided not to tell the other bridesmaids either. Its nice feeling like i have this little secret with my mum (who came with me to buy my dress). I love that u want it to be a surprise. Stick your ground girl u will feel better for it on the day.

Hun, dont show her the dress...simple as! If she asks again...just say ...ok not really...but if she asks again, just say, im keeping it to myself...end of!

Thanks a million girls, I think I will hold off as long as I can and if there is any major stink I will show a pic of the dress, as Mrs Smurf said 'they all look different on the models' - too true! The model sporting my dress doesnt have a gut to conceal!!
I too have a mouth like a torn pocket and the only reason I wanted to do it this way was because I was a bridesmaid for a good friend and I hadnt seen her dress until the day of the wedding and I thought it was a lovely surprise. And the thing that annoys me is when I was told we werent seeing the dress until the day I respected that. Sure I would have like to have seen it before then but it was her decision. But sure in weddings you can never please every one.
