Postby feb2012 » Sun Nov 13, 2011 12:29 am

Hi All,

Drama, just went shopping with my mam today for an outfit.. Nothing was that nice on her bar one outfit but she said she could find something better. I have given up now... she said she will look around and see if she can see anything herself.
Has anybody had the same problem. We went from clarhall to raheny to town

Hi Feb, I'm not much help to you im afraid... I'm just wondering what kinda prices were the mob outfits? I heard they can cost 900 and my mother just wouldn't have that kind of money! My wedding dress didn't even cost that!

I was expecting it to be hard to find something for my mother, as she only wears really casual stuff. But she got a lovely dark purple dress and jacket in Debenham. I think it was about 370 sterling so a bit pricey for something she will never wear again. She got matching shoes in M&S for 15 pounds though, and a necklace in pennys for 2 euro. The best bit was we got it all sorted in one morning, about 3 hours total. It helped that she is small and slim and let me choose! She hates shopping so getting her back for a second day would have been difficult.

On the other hand, my FMIL has bought a suit for something crazy like 850 euro and is not even sure if she will wear it or get something else and is talking about getting a hat made too. She is very plus sized so shopping is more of a challenge for her. I'd say she will spend more on her outfit than price of my dress by the time she is done.

Feb12, your mum could try the personal shopper service in one of the big department stores. That would take some of the leg work out of the seach and they might have some suggestions of what would suit her best. I was planning to do that with my mother, but we ended up going shopping at short notice with no time to book.

sounds like you put down a tough day hun :hug3 lucky i didnt have any of that problem with my mam-we purchased on day one, shop one. but my mam is an awkward wnough shape to dress so rather than have a series of frustrating shopping trips my mam decided we would only go 2 shops that specialised in mob/mog stuff. we went to Lynchs in banagher. its a bit of a trek-over 90min from us but it was worth the trip.i no lots of mobs/mogs from around our area that have gone there and nearly all of them got something there, as they have a god selection for a lot of shapes and sizes. it might be worth a look at their website:

hope ur mam gets sorted soon hun or it will just stress ye both out!

I think Lynches of Banagher is the old relaible alright - my Mam got her MOB outfit for my sisters wedding last year there - it was stunning but v pricey! Still she looked amazing. She says she is going to try to get something for my wedding that she could wear again at some stage (I can see us back in Lynches though when the time comes).
I feel sorry for the MOBs (and MOGs) - lot of pressure on them to look great also!!

My mam hasn't said a whole lot about her outfit yet. She is plus size so she won't wear dresses but she wore cream head to toe to my sisters wedding (her own wedding outfit from 2007) and I was vocal enough that I would not be happy about her doing that at my wedding.

She admire some coloured accessories in Debenhams so here's to hoping thats what she goes for.

MOG has a stunning royal blue dress so she is well sorted.

Funnily enough, I had to insist on my mother not buying a cream dress. She thought it was ok as there was a purple jacket to go over it but I just didn't like the idea of anyone else in white/cream. It was my first bridezilla moment!

My mam is fairly young and hates the tgypical MOB stuff. She ended up getting an absolutely stunning navy dress in TK Maxx. It looks like it was made for her, it fits her so well!!

Mine was painless! My sil and I took her to town in September and she got the first outfit she tried on in the first shop. :clapper

She paid 380 for a very classy dress and fur jacket. Got headpiece and shoes in Debenhams in sale.
