smithfield flower market

Postby Littlemisscupcake » Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:35 pm

Hi everyone..

I was wondering has anyone used or know anything about smithfield market. It is very hard to find information about it online and posts that I have seen are very old. Just wondering has anyone used it and whether anyone can go and buy flowers.

Hi there, we import our flowers directly, so I'm not sure about the rules in Smithfield, but from experience of working in various shops over the years, you need to order your wedding flowers in advance to ensure that you get what you want. Just something to bear in mind, is that buying from any wholesale outlet, you will have to buy wholesale quantities, so you might have a good bit of wastage, for example, roses can only be bought in multiples of 20, gerbera usually in multiples of 50. HTH a little bit anyways.

Hi there, I actually need about 180 Gerberas so that is why I thought that it would be the most cost effective way to go as I have priced them in shops and they are €1 each so I am hoping to get them cheaper wholesale

Hi,
Smithfield Market is worth a visit. There are not too many wholesalers still there but chatting to the sellers will get you more of an idea of what is possible.
Just be aware that the market opens at 6 am & closes around noon, Mon to Sat.
It is located beside the 4Courts on Dublin North Quays. Its easy enough to find.
Good luck & let us know how you get on.

We would be only too happy to supply any of you DIY brides with your fresh flowers. From my past experience, the market tends to not be the cheapest place to purchase flowers from. We are based in Tinahely, Co Wicklow, but could arrange to have the flowers delivered to you, or collection would be free. If you PM me with your requirements (including colour and wedding date), I will be able to give you an idea of how many flowers your really need so that you won't have too much waste. We will also treat the flowers for free.

We can also supply all the pins, ribbons and tape etc that you will need to make your bouquets. As we are importing the flowers from our own suppliers, we will be able to offer you great prices.

Just be aware if you are buying from the markets, that you DON"T buy flowers such as Gerbera or Roses more than 2-3 days before your wedding, as they won't look their best on your wedding day if you have them sitting around too long. Also keep the flowers as cool as possible but not in the fridge!
