Postby BluefishJD » Sun Oct 16, 2011 11:38 am

:bluewave Everyone, I'm Bluefish's :smileybride to be and am looking for some help/advice/experience on my question of lightinthebox. Also I would like to say this website and people hire on it are very helpful and good advice and have helped us alot with questions so thank you :D

I have seen what I think is "The" dress on lightinthebox :bounce :bounce just have to add a few extra things (straps meaby) but I am a bit worried about ordering online have any of you have experience with this website? I know from another post that the quality is good and most people were happy with their purchase but I also seen things like customs - which i don't fully understand :dizzy also is it good idea to go up size - any help would be great

Welcome to the site! :hug1

I don't have personal experience with lightinthebox, but for an extra $30 you can have the dress made you your own measurements. I would definitely recommend this, as Asian sizes are notoriously smaller than the rest of the world (well they have been with anything else I have ordered from Asia). I would get a dressmaker to measure you up, so the sizing is correct and sent those over instead, just so you will have it properly fitting. The quality from them is supposed to be good, but I cant comment personally.

Customs charges are 50/50. Some people get stuck with them, whilst some people don't. You should definitely factor them into your overall cost, and if you don't get charged, consider it a bonus! So when the DHL or UPS people come to deliver the dress to your door, they might say that you owe another €80 or whatever in customs, and they will not give you the package until that has been paid. Or else they will send a letter out to you, telling you the price you have to pay and then they will deliver the package.

Hope this helps a little!

:happywave I got my bm dresses from lightinthebox - they were fab!! I would recommend paying the extra for the custom sizes. They give you very good instructions on how to measure on their site, I ordered 2 bm dresses, 1 fg dress and a dress for my mam on it, did the custom sizes for all the dresses and all were perfect, no alterations required :) I wanted straps on my bm dresses too so I ordered extra material from lightinthebox too so the material was the exact same and my mam made straps out of it and sewed them on, they turn out perfect.

As for the customs, that's hit and miss, some get caught some don't. But I would factor it into your budget, I got hit for €160 customs and to be honest customs never crossed my mind so it was a massive :yikes2 . I got a false invoice with a lower amount in the box and it was marked as a gift but the Fed-Ex guy told me that customs know exactly what is going on so they watch out big time for these sort of packages, really i don't think there is anyway around it, it's down to luck. But to give you an idea of how they work it out so you can budget for it

Lets say your dresses are €300
12.5% of €300 = €37.50
€37.50 + €300 = €337.50
21% of €337.50 = €70.87

So you pay customs €70.87

Hope that helps hun, really even with the customs it still worked out cheaper than buying them here for me and the quality really was brill :)

Thank you letmeeatcake - I have only really been looking at dresses never knew about the make to fit service so good advice there and the lightinthebox dresses all look fab (to me) I have tried on dresses here in local towns just to know what style suits me and to be honest the LITB prices are also a great value and in my budget :) thanks for advice on customs i thought when i order it from site in checkout that it would tell me what charge customs is but from what you say it will be the delivery guy yes? I suppose €80 is not much especially as the dresses are such good value - thanks and proves again what good site this is - I'm sure my G2B has had funny questions but we know hire they will always answer.
