What would you change about the day itself???
What would you change about the day itself???
Hey married missies
I saw a thread like this on another forum, after I was married, and wished I had seen it before the big day as there was loads of things that would have been handy to know about the day itself. I know there is a tip thread but that's more about planning than the day itself so as it may help the missies yet to get married tell us what you would change about your wedding day????
I'll get the ball rolling:
1) I would have gone earlier for hair and make-up. The girls came to my house, I have 5 for make-up and 6 for hair, inc fg, but I left it very late to have mine done, well not very late, I just didn't realise how long it would take for mine as opposed to the girls. Leaving it too late left me with very little time for pics at my parents, plus I wanted time to chill with a glass of champers out the back garden and I didn't get time to do that at all, it was straight into the dress and out the door.
2) I would have broken in my shoes!!! They murdered my poor feet and swelled so much I couldn't get them into the 2 pairs of lovely flats I had bought to match my dress so I ended up in hot pink flip flops
These are the 2 main things I can think of at the moment, I'll be back though

I would ask someone reliable to move the flowers from the church to the reception. To this day it gets my goat to think my lovely flowers were left in the church.

I wouldn't change too much about the day
The first thing I would change is start printing mass booklets earlier than the day before the wedding - they took far longer than i thought they would and was still doing them the morning of the wedding and had problems with the printer - nightmare - and was late to the church because of it
I wish I had done a father daughter dance - I didn't think to say it to the band and I thought they would do one anyway but they didn't
But I really had the best day ever

Both hair & make-up girls arrived at about 9am ( I think, ish), takes about 20 mins to set-up and my 2 bm's went first, one for hair and one for make-up and then they swopped, then I let my brothers girlfriend go and then me and mam went. I was super chilled so enjoying hacking around the house and that, I'm not sure what time I started mine but it seemed to take FOREVER!!! Our ceremony was at 2pm so I planned on leaving at 1.40pm, but left at 1.55pm instead. It was prob my own fault too, but I thought maybe they should know better than me and told me to go before others. I would have gone first if I could do it again

Re: What would you change about the day itself???
Oh another thing now MrsEL reminds me of music. I would have talked to the band more beforehand, we did the first dance and father/daughter dance, I had warned them no garter but I'd throw the bouquet but otherwise I just left them too it. On the night I have to say they nearly drove me and hubby insane, now they were brill in the sense the floor was full BUT if they put us into one cheesy circle they must have put us in at least 5 - it was waaaayyyyy too much, and it did bother me, I was at the point in the night that I was really enjoying it, I danced all night anyway but hated being told I "had" to be in a circle, at that stage your duties are done and you just wanna chill and have fun, so I would say talk to your band/dj as lots of wedding bands do it, i just never thought to say once is enough

Re: What would you change about the day itself???
We didn't do that circle too much - just the countdown for midnight (as new years eve) and then the last song of the night - which were fine
I had hair and make up come at eight o'clock to the house but with the hassle over the mass booklets i ended up getting mine done last and then there was a panic, so yes i think it's better for the bride not to go last and for whoever is helping you in the dress not to be last either so that you can be getting in the dress while the others are being done - that is if you are getting hair and make up at home
