Does anyone want my May 2012 wedding date?

Does anyone want my May 2012 wedding date?

Postby beezy » Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:18 pm

Hi everyone,

My fiance and I were due to get married on Friday 4th May 2012, but ended up cancelling for personal reasons. Unfortunately, if the venue doesn't fill the date we're liable to pay cancellation charges which amount to 70% of the whole wedding, and we're understandably getting a bit worried as time goes on that it won't be taken.

I don't know if I'm allowed to mention the venue or not, but they are currently offering a reduced all-inclusive wedding package for certain dates, ours included, which covers the ceremony & reception venues, dinner, photography, cars, cake, etc. I was just wondering if anyone out there would be interested in taking our date? If so, my fiance and I would contribute a hefty percentage of the cost once they have booked. This is a genuine offer - we would much rather eliminate the stress at this point and contribute to someone else's big day rather than shell out for a wedding we're not having!

If anyone is interested, please feel free to message me privately for the full info.

Apologies if I've broken any rules with this post - I just wasn't sure how else to get word out there, and we're getting pretty worried about the whole thing.

Couldnt read and not post, hopefully you will get the date filled, if not could you still go with your date and just have a very small wedding, if you are going to have to pay for the wedding anyway if the hotel doesnt fill the date, would you not just have a small wedding with a few very close family and friends. Save you forking out money on nothing!

I know nothing about your situation, but this would be my view, if you have to pay anyway why not have something for it!

Thanks for your post grogmg, I really appreciate the suggestion and I completely see the logic in it. We did actually think to ourselves when we saw the webpage advertising the deal that we would have gone for it if we'd known about it sooner (it only became available in December), but we cancelled way back in August 2011 and since then have booked to go away to Gibraltar by ourselves and get married quietly without all the expense - so we're no longer in a position to take up the offer!

We cancelled because we just didn't have the money and all the extra expenses were spiralling out of control, and at the time the venue assured us that they were 98% confident that our date would be filled - and because there was still 9 months to go and venue is very popular, we really believed that it would be. Unfortunately it still hasn't been taken, and we're just getting concerned now that we'll end up having to pay out. But hopefully someone out there might be interested! As I said in my original post, we would genuinely rather contribute to someone else's wedding than pay for 70% of a wedding that we're not going to have, so fingers crossed it might suit someone who is looking to get married within the next few months. It really is a lovely venue too.

Hi Beezy,

just posting to say I really hope you get sorted. It's a pretty crap situation to be in and my heart goes out to your and your H2B. Have you tried any of the radio stations or anything like that? Even Ray D'Arcy's show just to get it out there? I totally understand how you feel with the costs spiralling out of control, it's scary to be honest!
Grogmg also had a great suggestion but i guess it's all or nothing!!
Just wanna say best of luck with finding somebody for your date anyway and as long as you and your H2B are together thats all that matters!

Thanks for the good wishes Biscuit Tin!

We're thinking about going down the radio station route if we can't find anyone to take the date, but I'm just a bit concerned that we wouldn't get much sympathy from people considering we did book the wedding in the first place and were stupid enough not to read the cancellation clause in the contract! But we'll try anything as it gets closer to the date, so it's something I'll look into.

Hopefully it will all work out one way or another!
