Wedding Cakes Dilemma

Wedding Cakes Dilemma

Postby Mrs Donohoe tobe283 » Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:59 am

Having a bit of a dilemma about the cake situation !

My BMs cousin makes cakes and has quoted me €350 for the cake, but a friend of mine said to have a look at Marks and Spencers wedding cakes they are really fab and can start fron 50 to 300. Went online and they have really gorgeous cakes, id get one for 150 including colour sheme for the wedding, Think ill go with this as it is really only for decoration , and iv been at many weddings and the cake is not eaten !

Its ony a cake at the end of the day !

I've heard that the M&S cakes are fab. And your right a lot of the time the cake isn't even eaten. I'd say if you want to go with M&S do so, if your worried about offending the Bm's cousin who bakes cakes just tell them that somebody has gone and organised it as a gift for you and that you couldn't say no.

I think wedding cake is waste of money too when i'm at
weddings i notice how much cake is left on the table unless
you can use your cake as the dessert

If You ask any prof. photographers they will tell You the wedding cake is the 2nd most important photo object right after the bride and groom. I think saving a 100-150 Eu on the whole wedding is not worth to ruin this important part. There is a huge different between wedding cakes. Thanks god there are some very good companies now. IMO M & S cakes are way too artificial. They must have a long shelflife and almost bulletproof :)

In Dublin area the best are creativecakes.ie or cakebox but they are little bit on the pricey side.
A good one in midlands is noveltycake.ie

Def say someone else is taking care of it for you, easy way to not hurt feelings :)

reni, welcome to the site. :happywave
I have to disagree with you though, IMO the most important part of the photos will be getting photos taken with our family and friends. I am sure we will get one or two with the cake but I honestly don't think I would be that upset if we didn't have any.
