Venue help please!

Postby mrswhits » Fri Feb 05, 2010 11:36 am

Hi ladies! Thanks in advance for any replies :bluewave

Just wondering if many of you are coming across hotels/venues who have a policy that the wedding party needs to book X amount of rooms for the night of the wedding? Most of the ones I'm looking at seem to be doing this, I can kind of see why but the problem I'm having is that their "wedding rate" is fairly steep and I'm not sure if guests would be prepared to pay it.. So this is putting me off these venues even though I would be seriously considering them otherwise. We're only having 70-80 guests and we want somewhere with a little bit of wow (not fancy fancy but just really nice) Any thoughts??

I'm in Waterford btw and if anyone has any recommendations for venues around here or wexford or even kk then I'm all ears!! We're even considering going to Killarney at this stage! Just doesn't feel like we're properly on the way yet until we've decided where to have it.. :?

Hi mrswhits,

Can't say I have heard of that before. Out hotel certainly didn't mention it to us, but they have block booked a good few rooms for us. We are travelling a bit from our home town to so I expect quite a few will stay.

There are some lovely hotels in Wexford. Amber Springs in Gorey is fab, not sure if that is too far?
There is another hotel in Gorey too, The Ashdown, but Amber Springs is nicer.
Riverside Park in Enniscorthy is fab too.

There are some nice hotels in Wexford town too. Don't have much experience of them though.

Thanks girls, scdp - 10 rooms isn't too bad, one of the places we liked the look of said we need to book 30 rooms and the room rate is €245 a night!? Not sure if I can name it. We don't want to put unneccesary cost onto our guests, I'm sure they could find cheaper alternatives nearby. Now I know it's a boutique hotel etc and I haven't tried negotiating yet, we're going to see it properly on Sunday but this is already putting me off.

Thanks kia001, will look at Amber Springs, had looked at Dunbrody cos thats just across the ferry from Waterford City but again we'd need to book all rooms afaik

Oh that sounds like a lot, sounds like you need to talk to them, prices might be reduced since then

Whow €245 a night is a lot, but if there are b&b's etc closeby, its up to the guests themselves then....did u look at Faithlegge? I am just outside of Waterford, have venue narrowed down to 3 - Faithlegge, Tower and Brandon House in New Ross...Just have to go now and see their packages etc! Heading to Brandon next Wed. What date are u getting married? I havent date set yet but will be summer 2011

If you are going to travel outside the home town mrswhits, you will be surprised at how many people will actually stay. A lot of people, especially close family and friends, like to be there the next morning too.

hi kkbride have you looked into slaney manor in wexford. the reception itself when they have it there is in kinsella castle and its a venue made for under 120 guests i think. if you want a bigger wedding there you have to have a marquee. the catering is done with the talbot hotel. its a really old medieval castle with a gorgeous big open fire when you walk in and i think they're quite reasonable about the rooms too. its just outside of wexford just before you come to the maldron hotel if your coming from waterford. worth a look!!

our venue are keeping 40 rooms for us with 10 getting a sea view. all rooms are at a special rate.
if all rooms are not booked by a certain date they will be withheld.but i reckon if your travelling a bit
most people will want to stay(i hope in my case)
