so exciting! really real now! My parish clerk told us that the minute we get it, drop it to the church and he'll put it in the safe, ( he said the same with the rings) ready for the big day. One less job for someone on the day. He said you'd be surprised how many people forget it on the day!
Thought twas good advice from him.
Congrats love, you won't feel it now!

Yeah, they allow it if you live in another country. You fill in a form and post it to them, so you get recorded on the system, but you have to go in at least 5 days before the wedding the same as everyone else with all your certs etc. We're going to try get in a couple of months before once we're on the system and have all the paperwork we need.

You go in with your birth certs, passports, utility bill, fee of €150 and you register your intent to marry on whatever day you want to get married. The forms required can be different in some registry offices so you are better off asking them what they require from you and whether they want copies of anything (some want colour copies). You'll laugh too because you have to declare that you're not a brother/sister/aunt/uncle/mother/father/husband of aunt/wife of uncle/something else funny concerning an uncle/aunt of the person that you intend marrying. They give you your form and you have to keep that safe until the day of the wedding and then it gets signed in the church or the registry office when you get married! They give you a green folder to put everything into.

Lets say if you decide to put the wedding back you have six months in which to get married from the date that you had originally put down for the wedding i.e. lets say you put down 23 March 2012 well then you have until the 23 September 2012 to get married otherwise you have to register and pay all over again. You need to inform them of the change of date within the six months.

Oh and make sure to register your intent to marry AT LEAST 3 months before the wedding otherwise you have to go to Court to get an Order!! I got engaged in February, booked the meeting to register our intent and didn't get an appointment until August. They are a very busy office so no harm doing it sooner rather than later.

You'll be getting married before you know it.

Thanks bingowings :) & thank you for explaining the six months thing to as I have read it loads of places and it only just made propper sense to me right there. I thought you had to be getting married in the six months after you register. Or actually does it matter how soon your register then? lol oh don't I feel slow now.

Yeah, I guessed there would be a wait but didn't think it could be that long!!
