What is everyone else doing the day after the wedding?

Postby lamb » Wed Aug 31, 2011 4:23 pm

Just wondering what to do the day after the wedding, we are thinking of having food in my home house, I'm just afraid mam will be under too much pressure, she won't be preparing the food but I know once it's in the house she wont relax properly untill everyone is fed!! Don't want any fuss, panic or pressure, just want to relax and enjoy the day with family and friends. Another option is to go to a local restaurant with family and meet up with friends and extended family in the evening??? I feel mam would prefer to have us back to the house.....

Going to my son's confirmation!! Don't ask! We are however having a party in our own house after that though. I'm getting married on a Friday and I'm going to set the house up on the Wednesday before. From January next year on I plan on making finger food and freezing them, I have my sisters and sils on hand to get salads and food out etc when we're at the confirmation. We're also getting a pig spit roast, my brother has a marquee tent thingy and we're putting that up outside. Since we moved into our house about 4 years ago myself and h2b have had a BBQ each year so we're used to doing it. It'll be hectic but we like a bit of chaos in our lives!

We are going to the pub!!! We have a section booked in our favourite pub in town from 2pm for the following day and they are going to throw in free finger food and stuff like that. Suits us perfect. That is the day I intend letting my hair down, even though we have a bloody christening at 12 the next morning plus we have the get the bus up to Dublin cuz we are flying out 8am on the Sunday! First few days of honeymoon will be spent sleeping!

We are going to be in my mams house, nothing fancy, no-one really "invited" either, just left that we will be there in the evening if people want to call round. It will be mainly family there though, aunts uncles and cousins as well as immediate family. Im not going to organise anything, if other ppl want to organise something they can and il just show up!! :verydizzy

God I hadn't really thought bout the next day and then my Mam said - why don't we stay on in the hotel for the 2nd night (we're getting married on a Bank Holiday weekend) - so I mentioned the possibility to the hotel and they were fab - will charge us wedding rates for the 2nd night (for which they are giving us a great deal!!) offered us a choice of a meal the 2nd night for €35pp or BBQ for €15pp - thought it would just be our immediate families but actually most of my family have said they'd love to make a weekend of it (I'm not loaded - they are all paying for themselves ;) made sure I mentioned that bit!!) - looking forward to having time to see them the next day too!! :D

were heading to a local hotel and reserving a spot and having finger food for everyone, we also decided that we would treat ourselves to staying over in the hotel...just to keep the party going

We are thinking of either having food /drinks in our house and getting a caterer in or going to our local and reserving an area! Really don't know what to do yet!

I desperately wanted a bbq at my parents place as they just put a big patio deck looking out over the river, and priced a big on spit and everything but then realised my mom was going to lose it. She was willing to let us do it but she would have gone crazy and had to re-tarmac house, paint house etc. i decided its not worth doing that to her (she has however lost her marbles anyway and is re-tarmaccing, re-papering and re-doing water pipes!!!! mental, so glad I'm in England and not there for it - 15 days to go and apparently there are builders everywhere!). We are getting married day before the all ireland so next day have asked hotel to do finger food (thought they would do it free, but nope!) and put up big screen and hopefully lots of people will come watch match with us. We had looked at venues in town but lots of people will be staying in the hotel, and all the locals will be crowding out the pubs! Still, Kerry to win :)

We're going to local hotel and having food and disco there. Originally I wanted to have something at home but the more I thought about it the more I thought it was too much pressure having to be out of the hotel and home to start organising things.

Going to have a bbq in a local pub the next day (havent arranged it fully yet) as we are getting married on the friday of a bank hol and its a bit away from both of our homes so if people are good enough to travel then we want to do something for them! The bbq will end up costing as much as wedding by the looks of it- around half of the guests will stay around and thats 130 people!! :yikes2

About 50 guests will be coming from UK and America so we feel we have to do something and then the irish people still have the sunday and monday of the bank hol to do whatever they like!

Hopefully we get good value on the bbq, i've heard people saying that the average is around 25 quid per head!!!

Have nothing planned yet. Think we are gonna bring the immeadiate family for dinner in a country pub/restaurant and then let friends and extended family come out after. Either that or have bbq/finger food for everyone! Think you have a bit of a catch 22 Lamb., if your Mammy wants you to have it in her house she will be busy all evening enteraining. if it is in her house she is not gonna relax until alot later.. Irish Mammies ( we can't beat them!!!). I wonder would it suit to bring immeadiate families for dinner and then go back to your home house for drinks and invite everyone our there. You could have nibbly bits (crisps, peanuts. nachos etc) and drinks. Might be the best of both worlds!
