So missies, was talking to himself this morning, and mentioned we should maybe go abroad - to save money - just the two of us.....and i said should we pospone the wedding, and then he said do you think??? Bless him i know he wants to marry me its just funds at the minute, the responible thing to do....

The history is there's people been let go every few months in my place from work, andi'm worried about the monies

in these times should we be putting all our savings into a wedding ( which now that i'm really thinkin gof it, i want all our friends and family) to have NO savings after the wedding I use to think we were having all the friends and family because he'd like it, but now been honest i do too you could say have a smaller wedding, but to be honest the only different would be the hotel cost, everything else has to be paid for no matter how many people go

My heart is saying go for it , but my mind - dame mind, is saying ther's more important things in life should we start a family, get a house built

I know i need to speak to him, and we have already but decided to go for it, now i'm just thinking, oh i dont know....

hi there.. my sister is in a similar situation... The weddings abroad are gettin a bit more expensive because there is such a high demand on them... I know a girl who bought something on city deal it was 100 guests for 2000 i think.. I was thinking of flyin away myself but i know in my heart i wud regret it as ive always wanted to go from my family home and my father is not fond of flying.. i say follow ur heart... its a day to remember for the rest of your life.. im saving on the honey moon by having it about 5 months after our wedding... there is bargains out there u can do it to a high standard by finding the right price...hope i was helpful to u.. good luck

Kind of in a similar situation. Just bought a house and no one is sure what way the job situation will go. We've set a modest budget from the start and sticking with it. I'm lucky that I already live abroad so it helps tone down expectations of inviting 3rd cousin once removed plus the local butcher to the wedding
The wedding industry back home in Ireland is so full of expectations from what I gather. Who says anyone has to hire a videographer and photographer and horse drawn carriage, etc?
Look at what you want to have and then look at what you can have via your budget. Sure, would we have liked a fancy classic car to get us to and from the church? Yes. Are we happy to replace it with a friend's nice car with some ribbons on it? Absolutely.
The whole hotel wedding package industry doesn't really happen over here, so it gives us more room to prioritise and make savings. We're renting a large summer house, having a caterer come in with a buffet and decorating the place ourselves the night before. That way we still get to have all our friends and family; feed and water them and have a bit of a hooley. But without the pricetag of renting out a castle.
If friends and family are one of your priorities then I'm sure you'll find a way to make it happen and still get the day you wanted.

missies thanks for the replies, guess alot of people are looking at the funds...........so going to look at what we should have saved this time next year then use that as our budget, maybe put off the honeymoon if needs be..............will talk to H2B when he gets home, fingers crossed

so went through out budget last night, and woohooo the wedding is back on , not sure when honeymoon will be happening or what else we defo need to cut back on, but alls well again, phew - as long as we'll still working

Hey december2012, glad to hear it And don't worry about the honeymoon, if heard of lots of couples, ourselves included, that are having a belated one when they can afford it. We're getting married next summer but will save up to maybe go to Tanzania the following year.
