Catholic blessing versus Chapel wedding Lanzarote

Postby honeybeeluvvin » Sat Oct 16, 2010 3:31 pm

Hi girls. We have had a bit of trouble with our date 8-) as we had to put the wedding back a year but have still kept the same date :mrs2benut It was the day we met and we met IN lanzarote so it is quite significant for us.. Anyhoooooo we have a slight problem though as it now falls on a Saterday and the priests wont marry non-residents over there at the weekend  I can understand that I suppose.. So we have decided to go for a blessing, (get married in the registry over here first we wont have to exchange rings etc so its ok :clapper ) and go for an outdoor venue over there, somewhere like a hill top, beach or cliff :bounce you get the idea.. any ways I was wondering have any of you done this over there and if you did where did you get married? I dont know if this will end up being more expensive because we may have to rent chairs, and decorate the area aswel. What do you think? I think seeing as we are going that far we may aswel take full advantage of the scenery and beautiful weather :fingerscrossed We are thinking of having our reception in the Gran Melia Salinas nd I dont know if they have an area for our ceremony, but even if they did if it isnt absolutely STUNNING i wont be availing of it.. Do you remember the episode of friends where Ross and Rachel are describing their "joke " wedding day to their relations and Rachel said that a dove flew down and placed her ring on her finger??? Well that is how I feel about this wedding. OMG im obsessed
Also, which photographers have you used and did you think they were good? I got some mad quotes from them.. was a bit shocked tbh, but if thats the prices then thats it.. any advice?

We're getting married in lanzarote next year. We're doing the legal part here in a registry office and having a blessing over there and although we are catholic we were told we can't have a catholic blessing. It will have to be an anglican blessing as the catholic priests over there will only do a full marriage, not a blessing, and it has to be in the church. We don't mind that its an anglican blessing as we were told it runs pretty much the same as a catholic wedding does so we're not even telling our guests that we've the legal part already done here. The blessing we are having is on the private beach of the Hisperia hotel

Oh now the wedding planner never told us that  I am not a very religious person but I am a Catholic and I would want a catholic priest to bless our marraige, and i think my dad would have a fit if we didnt.. Thanks for telling me that because I never knew! Oh god, here we go again.. :banghead :banghead

Hi hun, was talking to the planner and she said it WOULD be an Anglican blessing, not an option, my parents would hit the roof and we want a Catholic blessing full stop. She mentioned having a celebrant blessing, which could include as much of our religion as we wanted to but this does not sound as authentic as we want.. waiting to hear more from her.. Thank god you told me :hug2
