Elope?

If you're NOT tying the knot in Ireland, post all about it here. Greece, Spain, Italy, France.... any foreign destination.

Elope?

Postby toasted » Sun Mar 20, 2011 1:05 pm

Hi Everyone.
First time post for me on Mrs2be! :crazy
Basically, me and my now fiance are together over 7 years. Have 2 children together.
Family wise, my parents do not get on. At all!! So trying to organise a wedding with all this family stuff going on.
When we first got engaged we talked about getting married abroad or eloping! Then decided we would have it here, but having second thoughts again.
So thinking of going abroad or eloping, just me, fiance and our two children. I was delighted when we got engaged and now trying to organise a wedding is getting me down as I am dreading the big day with my family. :boxing
Has anyone eloped or gone abroad to get married with just your children? We want a civil ceremony but just not sure what to do. Sorry for long post :ranting Just wanted to give a bit of info as to why I don't know what to marry here!! :nopity
Thanks,
toasted :happywave

Hi hun. First of all big hugs to you. My thoughts on it are if you are dreading your day that much then go abroad. This is meant to be the happiest day of your lives not something to be dreaded. You need to start your married life together happy not sad or worried about families. I really think you should go abroad and get married how you want to, make a holiday out of it too. And if the family aren't happy with that throw a big party when you get back. You could even say that you couldn't afford a wedding here and didn't feel right borrowing money for wedding.
Hope that helps, and we're all here for you if you need to rant further or sound anything out!

Thanks for the reply :D
We've definitely decided on abroad. Just need to decide on a country that we can have a civil ceremony in. Thats a good idea about having the party when we come back - Thanks!

A couple I know had their "secret" wedding here in Ireland - no one knew at all except for the witnesses (her sister, his brother) and the priest, they didn't even tell their parents! They phoned everyone afterwards and told them their big news. Fair play to them!
We considered eloping to Spain, but it wasnt possible for a church wedding, but I think it is possible for a civil ceremony! I think coming back and announcing the news would be so nice!!
Good luck with your decisions! :D

I wanted to elope hun and it was just my H2B that convinced me otherwise, actually he didn't convince me he just said he wanted is family there so we decided on Lanzarote cos we love the place and are always raving about it to friends and family and it was a good excuse to have every1 go together.
If you feel strongly enough about eloping hun then go for it, you'll be the least stressed out bride ever. Throw a big party when you get back to celebrate.

Thanks for replying Missies :affection

We have decided on these two options :yikes2

1) Civil Ceremony in Ireland - Have it in a different county from our own and book a nice restaurant or something for afters - havent gone into the finer details yet :dizzy

OR......

2) Las Vegas!!

:highfive
At least we've narrowed it down now :clapper
