Fuerteventura or Greek Islands

Postby MisiJ » Mon Mar 07, 2011 8:45 pm

Hi All,

Looking for some help. We are planning our wedding at the mo (nobody knows yet; we still haven't announced our engagement) anyways we know one thing for definite we are having our wedding abroad. Two places that have always stood out to me as possible wedding venues are Fuerteventura and the Greek Island used in Mamma Mia. Have any of you got married in either of these locations or been to a wedding there. We are going to choose one of the possible venues as our summer holiday destination so help would be greatly appreciated. I ideally would like somewhere that Ryanair or the likes fly to so guests aren't tied to package operators.

Thanking you in advance Missies.

Hi Sarah,

We haven't decided yet. We still haven't officially gotten engaged either! I like to plan & be slightly organised so when we do get officially engaged & people ask the "when's the wedding!" question I want to be able to give them some form of an answer. We have booked our holiday for this year to Vilamoura in Portugal so it could end up being there yet! I really want somewhere that is accesible by Ryanair etc that doesn't require guests being tied to a full week. Are you going to have a big wedding abroad?

We looked at a stunning hotel in Vilamoura, the Tivoli Marina Vilamoura.. They showed us around and we were well impressed!! Im steerig away from Portugal bcoz of the time of year we're looking at, i want to be gaurunteed good weather.. The islands off Greece are fantastic, but just dont seem easily accessible, considering there will be kids traveling.. Id say we'll have a number of 40-50 people, nothing big or formal.. You better off keeping the engagment quiet, i only bearly had the ring on my finger when people were asking about a date!!

What time of year are you getting married? We haven't decided that yet either! The ring is the first milestone, when we decide on that then it will move forward! Mamma Mia has me loving the greek islands!!! Our wedding will be a similar size and there will be some kids so like that want to keep is accessible. We will be the first one's from both families to get married abroad so am imagining there will be some tension about the fact we're not inviting all of the aunt's & uncle's to join us! Eeeekkk!

My sister is a primary skool teacher so we thought we would have to have the wedding in the summer but she'll be on maternity leave from nov so we were thinkin may~ish.. We love the idea of not having to invite every tom, dick n harry so that kinda adds to the idea of going away!! I also love the whole Mamma Mia theme but not telling himself that its the reason i love Greece haha.. It looks like we could fly to england, then direct to greece so all hope is not lost!! Did you have a look at thr hotel in Vilamoura?? The ring is an exciting time too!!

Hi Girls...

My first comment here... hope I`m not butting in here... Me and the H2B got engaged in Fuerteventura last year and are trying are best at the moment to book our wedding for there too... its not been the easiest as it isnt the most popular destination for weddings but it CAN be done and we are making it happen, we are heading back over in two weeks for our summer holiday and are meeting with a wedding planner to discuss some of the details. MisiJ I see you have booked your holidays to Portugal but if you could afford it I would recommend Fuerteventura to anyone! We have both fell in love with the island after several visits. Ryanair fly there every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday so there is a number of options for yourself and guests. We have been for a week and for a ten day trip and the flights cost the exact same. We are also planning a three day trip at Christmas.

But where ever you decide I hope you have a wonderful day!

Hi JD2B - you are so not butting in. All of the help you can give is greatly appreciated. Where do you stay when you go there? You are going to be my lifeline and fill me in with as much information as possible. There is something drawing me to Fuerteventura and I need to gather as much info as possible :)

I`d be glad to be of help MisiJ :D
We stayed in the Puerto Caleta Apts in Caleta de Fuste last year and again this month... My H2B has also stayed in the Caleta Gardens Apts before just across the road... they are simple and basic but very nice and great prices. We booked them through TravelRepublic and from speaking to others who have been we have got pretty good deals. There are a few websites that we have come across that offer villas for rent if you have larger groups or a bit more luxury for your special time away. At the moment we would LOVE to have our reception at the Sheraton Hotel but we are still looking at other places. We have been in contact with a few different wedding planners and have mad some mixed experiences through email. One women has told us that there is no way that we can have a Catholic Church wedding and tried to convince us to change to Lanzorate, but another has told us that it shouldn`t be a problem. We are hoping to finalise a lot of our thoughts when we go over in two weeks and meet with the wedding planner that we both got a really good vibe from when chatting through email face to face.
Not sure what other info you might be interested in but please do ask...
I think I have talked the ear off anyone who will listen when it comes to Fuerteventura... I`m turning into a travel agent for some of my friends, they swear I`m getting commission. :P
