Getting Married in Poland

Postby Eims » Tue May 03, 2011 4:05 pm

Hello Missies!

I am getting married in Poland next August. I was visiting my fiancé’s family last weekend for the Easter and we decided on our venue. It is absolutely fabulous and a bargain considering the price venues in a similar style would be here in Ireland.

We are getting the whole venue including food for 150 guests for €5,000. In Poland the menu is MASSIVE, think 4 Sunday dinners served between the hours of 5pm and 5am to each person. I better leave a bit of room in my dress for expansion.

I am trying my best to include a bit of Irish culture as much as I can because I don’t want my family to feel the Irish are being marginalised by the Poles so I found a band who are actually Polish lads but play Irish trad music as well as usual wedding play lists you would expect to find at any wedding.

Has any other Missie here gotten married in Poland or plans to? I am dying to compare notes because I am only feeling my way in the dark with my plans. I don’t have anyone else to consult regarding the average prices or what to expect from suppliers etc.

I am really looking forward to it all but I know I am taking on a lot organizing the entire event by myself from Ireland. The future Mr. Eims is helpful but I am not sure he understands my need for perfection!!!!

Anyone else planning their entire wedding abroad without a wedding planner?

Hope to hear from you soon,
Eimear :bluewave

Hi Missies,

Have the deposit down on the venue now. Locked in for the 4th of August 2012. We have the church booked ..... for 6pm. I freaked out at first because I thought it was waaaaaay too late but my H2B wanted that time so I had to SUCK IT UP and agree. I know half my guests will be flutered by that time but hey ho what can you do. I put a deposit on my dress last weekend in Tamem Michael Couture. H2B has asked his friend who is a photographer if he can do the wedding. Given that this friend is a tourtured artist type the fact that he didn't say no is about as good as we can get from him. It could happen that he won't turn up on the day but he is so good and really our style we are willing to take a risk.

We are still negotiating with the band. H2B thinks I am being to soft and says I need to "play hard ball" with them! I told him to give it a go himself if he thinks he can do a better job!

I feel I have a lot organized already and probably I don't have to do anything else now until after Christmas (boooo hooo I love the organizing!).

Bought my first wedding mag last weekend as well. Getting loads of inspiration from that too.

That's all for now.

Looks fabulous and for a fantastic price! Does your H2B have any sisters or friends that got married/living over in Poland who you could correspond with and ask for advice re: suppliers etc.

Hi Wuzzels!

Luckily my H2B's cousin is getting married in September and we are invited. She is a very beautiful and classy girl so I will take a note pad (ok a mental note pad!). Had a big chat with my Auntie today about all the finer details! I am waaaay too excited considering I still have more than 14 months to go!

I think the 6pm wedding is a great idea! and it is traditional in Poland to have it at that time - as you will be going all night! :) - my bride to be is Polish but we decided (after much thought) to get married here in Ireland (more her idea as it easier for us to organise the wedding here and then bring her family over) but what we did want is to get married very late in the afternoon - not so much for the all night party as neither of us drink but just because it is so different and the church will look class in the evening time with all the candles - it will add a different dimension to your wedding and in august in poland you will have great photos with nice setting sun for backdrop - Our church said we can't get married any later than 3.30pm as they have to keep from 4pm on free for Baptisms! Enjoy and best of luck - cieszyć się i gratulacje!!

dziekuje i wzajemnie :)

Still over a year to go and we have most things booked that need to be, right now it feels like the preparations have slowed down to almost nothing at all.

We have been in negotiations with our band for months and still haven't decided a price with them. My other half is convinced that they are trying to get the most money from us by dragging it out and therefore leaving us with no other choice when all the other bands are taken. But I think that's just another Polish conspiracy theory :P
