I want to start planning my wedding for portugal next year 2012.
I have arranged to meet a WP from portugal at the end of the month, but just wondering if anyone could help us with ideas or give me any information on where they have booked in portugal.

thanks :)

Residency requirement

Postby Becks » Mon Jan 17, 2011 7:07 pm

Hello fellow newbie!

I'm looking into weddings abroad also and Portugal is one of the ideas - however whilest trailing the net I discovered that there is a 30 day residency requirement. Have you looked into this or can anyone else confirm this???

Hey - welcome to the site!
I got married in the Algarve last August, did civil ceremony at home and church ceremony over there. You can read my wedding report in that section on the site.
Not sure if the 30 day residency still applies these days, is that if you are doing the civil thing over there?? You might want to check that with your wedding planner if its still relevant!

Hi girls.
I got married last Sept in Portugal. We didn't use a wedding planner & did the organising ourselves.
We did the civil part at home 1st as to do it in Portugal is very complicated but no 30 day residency is required.
I'd highly recommend Jo from MAC in Faro for the make up & can root out her number if you like. Music wise we used Algarve Music Agency for the church music & it was amazing! We used a local band for the reception & they went down a treat.
If you'd like a venue with a bit of a difference, then I cannot recommend Quinta Eventos in Tavira highly enough. It is a restored olive farm & is a great alternative to hotels. It's very rustic so not for everyone.

One last word of advice... Relax! The Portuguese do things very differently to us & don't expect things to be done with military precision! :) it will all come together on the day! Our church ceremony time got changed a few days before the big day & we just had to go with it!

Good luck! You definitely won't regret having your wedding in Portugal!
