Looking for ideas for wedding abroad

If you're NOT tying the knot in Ireland, post all about it here. Greece, Spain, Italy, France.... any foreign destination.

Looking for ideas for wedding abroad

Postby Becks » Fri Jan 14, 2011 10:25 pm

We've been looking at potential countries for weddings abroad - it's not easy! We are thinking of tying the knot in September 2011 and having a small wedding for family and close friends. Italy looks beautiful - but maybe a little too expensive! Somebody recently suggested Malta - any ideas greatly appreciated.
The budget is a bit tight and we're looking for somewhere sunny - after all that snow we need some sunshine!

I was looking up loads of travel agents sites for information on weddings abroad, and i found this one, and I think its very good. Its www.curraghtravel.ie They have a list of destinations and then they list a load of hotels and their details and gives you an idea of how much the wedding reception would cost per person in the hotel.

Thanks for that,

There is so much information it is hard to decide what to look at! Found this website also which I think is useful for finding out the legalities for getting married abroad. Also it has contacts for wedding planners etc.

HI Becks,

I'm way new to all this myself, only engaged at christmas and been looking around at our options. Happy to see other people are on my wave lenght regarding going away! Prices here are scandelous! We have been looking at Malta and got in contact by email with two planners Sarah Young is one and Dream Days is the other. Both offering very reasonable prices and deals at a fraction of what you would pay here for standard service.... Worth a look:-)They do everything for you and supervise on the day so nothing goes wrong! I am hoping to go out there in the next few months for a weekend or so to check it out and meet up with one of them to see the venues and discuss our requirements...

Hi Kikibell,
Definitely liking the idea more and more of getting married abroad - it all looks so beautiful and romantic! Good to hear someone else is thinking similiarly too. Could you send me the contact details for those two wedding planners that you mentioned please? We are trying to get our act together now as we have told everyone that the wedding will be sept/oct 2011. Naturally we have to give people lots of notice as it is abroad.... When are you thinking of tying the knot?

Hi missies, I know how you all feel my biggest problem was picking a planner and worrying about paying ,our budget is 15k which we thought was resonable but this money wont be available to us untill 2012. Then the planner told us they are already taking bookings for 2013 which sent panic through me.So now we feel pressured just to arrange the dates and pay the deposit to the planner...

Hiya

Don't feel pressurised to part with your money - all the planners that i have contacted have been free with all their information and haven't pressed us into making a decision. We're planning on getting married in Sept/Oct this year and none of them have asked for money yet! So be careful who you are dealing with. Where are you planning on getting married - maybe its a very popular spot. But from my experience there is plenty of availability - your budget seems very reasonable so I would say they are just pushing for your business!
