Religious Blessing?

Postby butterbee » Mon May 09, 2011 9:23 am

Hi,

We are having a religious blessing in Italy as our proper wedding and just us and 2 witnesses signing in reg office here.

Just wondering if anyone knows what religious blessing consists of? Can we exchange rings and say vows?

Thanks,

B

Hi B!

My sister was married in Positano, Italy back in September 2006. I was bridesmaid and from what I can remember it was very much like a "normal" ceremony. My sister had her blessing in the villa where the reception was being held. The day before the wedding her then H2B and herself went to the office in Sorrento to do all the offical stuff. I was bridesmaid and her hubby's brother was best man. We didn't have to go to the office with them, 2 office workers acted as the witnesses at that point.

Then the day of the wedding we had the whole walking down the aisle, which actually was the steps from the middle level of the property to the lower level (all outside the house which was built into the face of a cliff!). I went first followed by Sis and Dad. Then when we got to the "altar" there was a priest, a translator, violinist and the rest of our family and friends. Nice things were said, I do's and that... rings exhanged.... readings read by friends and family members. Then kiss the bride and signing of the papers by my Sis, her hubby, myself and the brother in law.

Thats how it looked for their wedding.

Are you having your blessing in a church?

Thanks for that. In Italy, when you get married there is civil and religious parts so she did get married in Italy and the priest signed the papers with them at the villa.

We would already be married in Ireland and only having a blessing in a church in Italy, dont know if we would have to sign anything in the church. Don't know if that would work the same... I hope so. Im waiting to hear back from the priest but in Italy they seem verrrry slow to reply.

Thanks for reply, your sister's wedding sounds amazing. Positano is gorgeous.

Yep the priest signed the papers at the villa on the day...it was a bit mad because they told their wedding planner that they didn't want anything religious but on the day a priest was there and there was lots of talk of god so I guess they just disregarded their wishes but in the end it was beautiful and nobody minded! Maybe my mother blackmailed the wedding planner behind my sister's back. LOL!

From what I remember my sister found communication frustrating too but it's just their culture. I am sure it will be fabulous on the day.

Best of luck!
