If you're NOT tying the knot in Ireland, post all about it here. Greece, Spain, Italy, France.... any foreign destination.

snowy weddings?

Postby engaged » Mon Dec 28, 2009 9:24 pm

Hi all- new to the site. My dp proposed xmas day and has told me he wants us to be married dec 2011. We moved to Ireland from England and have decided we'd like a snowy wedding with just very close family and friends there. I have a big family and there is normally an argument going on between someone so am trying to avoid it spoiling our big day and keeping the numbers down. Anyone had a snowy wedding? we were looking at disney world or going to lapland- anyone know costs? Or have any ideas of nice places? also what we need in order to get married there? Or even here since we're not catholic?

Parts of Canada would be lovely. You could also consider the Alpine regions- France, Austria and Germany. It would possibly work out cheaper than going to Lapland at peak season! Hope the planning is going well. Pictures would be lovely with christmas trees and decorations.

Canada would be lovely (because I am completely biased)... but depending where you go it could be tricky for people to actually get to your wedding. Plus the flights over can be kind of cost-prohibitive. I'd definitely recommend Whistler Blackcomb, or Grouse Mountain - both near Vancouver - they do absolutely stunning winter weddings!

Hi I've just joined the site, you've probably booked somewhere already but if not have a look at Zakopane in Poland. It's about an hour and a half from Krakow, a beautiful mountain highlander town! We've been skiing there a few times and have just booked our wedding for January 2013 !

Hi

I looked at snowy weddings briefly, as i love the snow! canada is stunning but could be costly with distance etc and number of guests, Austria is a good one to look at a place called Kaprun was my favourite but there are many weddings, also there is lake bled in slovenia which is stunning and regions in Italy. I have personally been to Lapland a few years ago and found it very dissapointing and over priced, all of the scandanavian countries will be expensive, i went to norway a few years ago and the prices over there are dreadful but it is a wonderful country and if had the money would go back anyday. Switzerland is another location to think about but again it could be expensive! Good Luck in deciding, let us know where you choose.

I was at a snowy wedding in Austria a couple of years ago. The pictures were amazing. If my memory serves me correctly the town was Zell am See about one hour from Salzburg and the hotel was lovely.

I agree with Cocochennells on the Zakopane idea. The area is lovely and you will get waaaaaay more bang for your buck in Poland. I booked my wedding venue in Poland last week for 150 guests including all the food (which is a lot) for €5,000. If you were considering Poland let me know if you need any reccommendations for hotels or wedding planners. Both Ryanair and Aerlingus fly to Krakow which keeps the flight prices down.

Best of luck!
