Ah thanks smiley_face! Yeah I havent been in touch with anyone at all! Everything has been manic recently. Been working late nights and weekends for months as well so its been hard to keep up!

Glad you got the music sorted - whatever happened about that music licence fee? I wasnt able to get any info on it.

We're following up with a few people on flowers and cakes at the moment, so hopefully we'll get sorted soon. Its just that we spoke to one lady a month ago who was going to sort out absolutely all the last bits and pieces that we need and we're just waiting on confirmation from her on whether she can do it all or not. I'm just getting a little worried now as its less than 2 months away. We were also told we'd need to order the cake by mid-July (which is coming around quickly!) But we've contacted a few other people too so we should manage - its just that I'd prefer to use this lady as it'd be easier to just deal with one person on the last few things. Its just bad timing as we've hit peak wedding season so everyone is busy sorting out weddings that have been on their books for months now.

How was your hen? Mine is the weekend after this one.

Yeah, you're absolutely right about that licence fee!! :crackwhip

Would be great to see your hen photos - just send you a friend request. We've booked Koh Bar & Restaurant for cocktails and dinner and then heading on elsewhere for drinks later on. Will check out Bucks!

Just accepted you there!
Never been to Koh, where is that? Its great if you get one place to do drinks and dinner, v handy.

Yeah Bucks was great, I emailed them about reserving a table and they reserved 2 tables for us. 2 of us got in free and the rest of the gang for a tenner. I didn't tell them it was a hen though and we weren't dressed up so don't know how they would feel about that iykwim! I've heard Lillies is good too for a hen and they don't mind the dressing up at all!

Koh bar is just off Jervis Street sort of area. Here's the website www.koh.ie I hadnt heard of it before actually until a good friend told me about it - went to look and it seemed great. We have booked a cocktail making lesson (just for something fun to do) and then seating down for dinner.

The manager in Koh was telling me that have connections with Lillies and if we wanted to go on there they would arrange an area for us. Never been to Lillies though so wasnt sure - you reckon its meant to be good anyway do you? We've planned to go to Diceys and then if we want to move on there's a few places around there. But Diceys is open late and plays cheesy music so we just end up staying there.

Know what you mean about whether the bars would mind the hen thing! Koh have no problem luckily but Id be nervous about some places - u dont know what people's reactions might be.

@ mrsOtobe, I went to Koh a few months ago and had a great time.

We did the Cocktail lesson first, which is great fun.
We all got to make 2 cocktails each, and then had a 3 course meal (Thai). There was so much food, and it was so tasty!

Hi Girls , just started planning and we are thinking of going to portugal ! just wondering did your hotels / caters make negotiations on the menus and prices got a few prices and locations and to be honest i dont really like the set menus the hotels have given us and some of the prices are high. So girls just wondering did anyone get the hotel to make a few changes with the menus and move on the prices.

hiya, its really difficult to be honest- i found that the prices are fairly fixed- however the venues we looked at are open to other menu suggestions for sure.

Thanks for your reply not long til your wedding :) :) yeah i was getting that impression alright but with recession alot of irish hotels and suppliers are coming down in prices its hard to understand why in portugal they wont make some discounts etc. there is one or two places i have my eye on going over to see them soon. I love reading all the tips on this site it has really helped me. Does anyone have recommendations for hairdressers in albuferia also beatuicans as i might try a few when i over.
Hows everyone plans coming along?

we have no date set yet will make one when we go over but thinking late Aug /early sept 2011, so have lots to do but i really like portugal have been over 6 times so far & like the idea of a wedding abroad the funny thing is you just resume that it will cost much less because when you go out to eat in portugal it costs much less than Ireland.
11 weeks bet you cant wait you will be busy with all the little things that have to be done, is there many traveling with you for the wedding?

HI ruanelou, our venue isnt a hotel Im afraid - we looked around a good few hotels but never got as far as negotiating prices etc. We're using a caterer and have found him to be really flexible - basically we just gave him a budget and he came back with suggestions for what he could do for the price. He's been happy to do whatever we want and we did manage to get a bit of discount on his first quote too. Id say the hotels should be flexible enough on the menu choice, not sure how much so on the prices
