Why are you getting married Abroad?

If you're NOT tying the knot in Ireland, post all about it here. Greece, Spain, Italy, France.... any foreign destination.

Hi Charlie, I couldn’t agree more. I guess algarve wedding planners and double Cocktail are just getting too popular!! Anyway I’m just delighted I’ve booked them for my wedding. Feedback on them you'll find on all forums really. Sorry I can’t give you the links for their sites, as the others brides did for their planners or band, cause they will accuse me of being a” fake bride” again. By the way we didn’t go for the Vila vita as it turned out to be way above our budget. Best of luck on your search, cailin

Please give an example where this is happening on this site?

Do you mean on this site Charlie7? I have to say I haven't seen anything negative on this site at all. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and it's been this way since the start. Very different to some other wedding forum sites.

All anyone on here wants is genuine and helpful information and you'll definitely get that here.

How are you getting on with your own plans - made any decisions yet? You sound like you might be steering more towards Italy.

Hi MrsO, thanks for your reply and help with the venues. I appreciate all help I can get.
I’m referring to the bullying of poor flower bride in the other topic.

We haven’t been able to make a decision about Italy or Portugal. We’ll have another look at it this weekend.
The Italian villas look amazing but I think it can be quite expensive depending on the time of year.

We decided to get married in Lanzarote because we love the place. I had 2 irish weddings last year and looking at it from a guest point of view i'd have hated every minute of it being the bride or groom. Having to meet nd greet 150+ guests so isn't my idea of my wedding day. Also both my family and my H2B family is rather big and there would be no way we'd get away with a wedding here for under 150 people at the minimum. We initially thought that we would save alot of money too, while we will on things like the reception and stuff there is the added expense of travel, but we plan on staying in Lanzarote for our honeymoon so that's something saved at least.

hi, im gettin married in portugal and using algarve wedding planners and double cocktail also!! :-)
i know they are the most popular and talked about but i think thats a good thing- it saves you going looking at loads of bands and trying to choose!
getting married abroad, i will agree, is def not cheaper! the meal is double what youd pay in ireland but other things like band, cake, photgrapher are cheaper so i think it evens out in the end, depending on numbers.

Congratulations on your wedding to be!! Overseas wedding with guaranteed sunshine!!! Although cheaper for wedding abroad, the costs mount up for family and friends thats why my h2b suggested we stay in dublin as a lot of our friends and family have young kids and pressure is on with jobs and things. His friends just got married in Malta - only 4 months notice so unfortunately a lot of their friends and some family could not make it over to share their day with them, but I think the core, key people made it. Photos look amazing and I know they had fantastic weather and a great time.

I'm finding that while the food and drink doesn't come any cheaper, nor do alot of the suppliers, for me the money saving comes in where I don't have to invite my huge extended family, instead I get a nice day with my closest friends & family and maybe just an aunt or 2 (just d close ones mind)!

We decided to go abroad so that we could keep numbers down and the cost that way. That said, we're still probably going to end up with pretty high numbers for an abroad wedding, about 150. I really didn't want a circus conveyor belt wedding. H2Bs parents own a pub and he's from a small village where everyone knows each other, big into GAA and is captain of his local team plus plays at county level as well. He could invite 300 on his own no bother and then I'd have my crew. I wouldn't have as many as H2B but I'd struggle to keep it under 150ish. The numbers were just mental if we were going to stay here and we just didn't know how we were going to tell some people why they weren't invited. At least going abroad we have the excuse of "oh it's mostly family really".

Going abroad isn't a cheaper option really because you end up doing more for your guests, the only way it's cheaper is by cutting numbers. We're putting on an open bar for a few hours on the night before the wedding and also for the day/night of the wedding, and also doing a welcome BBQ the night before, so by the time all that is done it works out quite expensive per head. It's a lot less heads though, and a LOT more bang for our buck than what we could get over here.
