By  |

Keep guests talking about your wedding day with our favourite wedding theme ideas.

Always in season

A seasonal theme is easy to incorporate into your big day and there’s not too much thinking involved when it comes to deciding what yours will be your wedding date will dictate this for you! You can keep things simple by choosing seasonal colours, flowers and foods or make it a bit more specific by theming your day around a public holiday. An Easter theme complete with chocolate eggs could work well for a springtime wedding, while a midsummer theme with outdoor elements such as refreshments in the open air and a barbecue instead of the traditional finger buffet could work beautifully if weather permits. For an autumn wedding, you could incorporate Halloween or bonfire night elements such as Jack O’ Lanterns on your tables and a fireworks display, while a winter wedding could become truly magical with the addition of a sparkling theme complete with ice sculptures and candlelight the weather might even oblige you with a dusting of real snow!

Around the world

Travel can be a great source of inspiration for your wedding theme, whether it’s places you’ve both been or places you dream of visiting one day. You could choose one particular country that holds a special significance and theme your entire day around that country’s wedding customs this might reflect your own heritage, for example, if one of you has family from a different culture, or could simply be inspired by your travels or time spent in another country. Travel themed weddings can be truly wonderful when the chosen theme really means something to the couple and their families, and will be unforgettable for your guests as it allows them to experience something completely different from what they’re used to almost like bringing them on an exotic holiday for a day!

Vegas, baby!

You might not be eloping to Las Vegas to tie the knot, but these days you can make all the decadence of Vegas come to you by hosting a casino-themed wedding! Mobile casinos are becoming more and more common and by choosing the right venue, such as an ultra-hip hotel, you can recreate the atmosphere of famous establishments like the Bellagio without having to ship your guests halfway across the world. This type of theme lends itself brilliantly to a civil ceremony where you can have your whole wedding in one place you could go uber-classy and glam or camp it up by hiring an Elvis impersonator to entertain guests while you’re off having photos taken. For favours, look out for poker chips personalized with your names and wedding date (or chocolate ones for an edible treat!), and give a nod to the famous fountains of Las Vegas by hiring a chocolate fountain instead of having a traditional wedding cake!

A night at the Oscars

The Academy Awards are famous for their glamour and if you fancy giving your big day the same treatment, why not go for a Hollywood or Oscars theme? Choose a wedding gown that would put any starlet of the silver screen to shame, arrive by stretch limo to a red carpet and champagne reception and make sure your guests know that the dress code is black tie!  Make your reception venue look like a celebrity hang-out with decadent chair covers, oodles of fairy lights and if your budget will stretch, a sparkling LED dancefloor. Add statement table centerpieces; think tall vases with sprays of exotic flowers and even feathers, beads and lights and perhaps consider naming your tables after famous old films or Oscar-winning actors. You could even copy all the best awards ceremonies by providing each guest with a mini goodie bag instead of a traditional wedding favour! Finally, choose entertainment in keeping with an A-list affair; a swing band or on-trend solo artist would work perfectly.

A question of sport

Always popular with grooms, sporting themes can reflect a personal passion, whether it’s a sport one or both of your actively participates in or simply something you follow. Football is an obvious choice but in actual fact any sport will work; for example if you enjoy golf, or sailing you can easily incorporate these into the names you give your tables and the favours you give to guests, and you could include a themed quiz either as part of your entertainment or in the form of trivia questions to get guests chatting over dinner. If you live in horse-racing country, why not adopt this as your theme? Name tables after jockeys or Grand National winners and think about having a night at the races’ as part of your entertainment you could even give your guests a free bet’ instead of a favour, with any proceeds going to a charity of your choice.

Ooh, I love the travel theme. We spent a year traveling together, so this would be ideal. Hadn’t even thought of a theme yet – thanks!
