A Relaxed and Romantic Galway Elopement

By  |

Ireland has such a romantic appeal to many couples for eloping and with the most breathtaking scenery and homely charm, it’s easy to see why. Our couple today, Kristin and JJ travelled from the US last November to elope in Galway.

Kristin and JJ met during a social gathering in Kalamazoo, Michigan when they were introduced by a mutual friend. They got engaged after a Living Colour concert when they were taking a drive afterwards to look at the local Christmas lights. “We were near the Navy Pier in Chicago, when all of a sudden, JJ pulled the car over and proposed. It was a special night because it was also my birthday,” explained Kristin.

“The style and feel of our day was fun, romantic and relaxed. No guests, no pressure, no worries so we planned a destination wedding in Ireland,” said Kristin. “We planned a wedding that would be special for us, so our priority was making sure we were relaxed, happy, and ready to enjoy our special day. We had a relaxing morning and then met up with the photographer for a fun photo shoot before meeting with the minster for the ceremony in a garden near the ocean.”

The couple researched and booked their elopement with a budget in mind and soon it was time to travel to Ireland.

“We incorporated Irish culture/heritage into out wedding including Claddagh wedding bands, a hand binding ceremony, a stop at the pub for a pint of Guinness, and photos near the Wild Atlantic Way,” added Kristin.

Wearing a gown she had sourced online, Kristin and JJ were married in a hand-fasting ceremony in beautiful garden setting.

“The weather in Ireland can be tricky for an outdoor wedding so it was difficult to know exactly how to plan for wind or rain. We decided to just go with the flow and it all worked out. My advice to others would be to remember not to go crazy with trying to make everyone else happy and comfortable. It is your day so relax and enjoy it! ” said Kristin.

Following their romantic and relaxed ceremony the couple travelled to The G Hotel and Spa, Galway to relax and enjoy their initial days as husband and wife.
