Childhood friends, Jodie and Gerard planned their wedding in just over a year, no mean feat when you throw their careers and two small children into the mix! Their day at Clonabreany House was an elegant affair featuring a pretty pearl and teal colour scheme with personal touches throughout. Thanks to Monica Hadarean for sharing their beautiful day with us.

Although they had grown up together, Jodie and Gerard didn’t get together until they were both in their early 20’s.

“I soon knew he was a keeper after the first date, because he was so honest and sweet and still is!” said Jodie.

Gerard proposed on Good Friday in April 2013, as Jodie explained;

“I had been working until 8:00 pm that day. I drove home and Gerard opened the front door for me, walked me into the sitting room and there was candles everywhere. He got down on one knee and proposed. He made a lovely candle lit dinner and had champagne to celebrate. I was in shock, I wasn’t expecting it at all, after seven years he could still surprise me! He had a token ring as he then brought me to New York to pick out one together.”

Being a busy hairdresser with two young children, planning their wedding was difficult at times for Jodie. With the help of Mary Philips book, ‘My Wedding Planner, an Irish Guide to Walking down the Aisle’ she worked her way through each decision and her elegant day with touches of vintage soon developed.

“The only easy part for us was Clonabreany House, as we wanted this from when we first saw it!” added Jodie.

Deciding on her dream dress was also pretty painless with Jodie choosing the second dress she tried on from Alexander’s Bridal in Dublin. The Maggie Sottero mermaid gown featured a sweetheart neckline, which she teamed with a blusher veil and golden peep toes.

Her bridesmaids wore deep teal multiway dresses, Jodie’s favourite colour, whilst all the girls carried peach rose bouquets.

“The day went great, just a little too fast! There was just one funny moment looking back, which wasn’t funny at the time! I could feel my garter slipping down my leg as I was walking down the aisle. I was hoping it would get caught in the long train, but no it was in the middle of the aisle! Very embarrassing,” said Jodie.
