Siobhan & Niall wedding day

Good morning bride-to-be! Such a beautiful wedding we have on the blog today; Limerick couple Siobhan and Niall’s wedding is pretty magical, which started with a Parisian proposal and includes one amazing wedding gown and a pair of Loubs, a vintage theme with spring colours, lots of help from friends and family and beautiful photography from the lovely Emily Doran Photography. Enjoy this one girls, we think it’s pretty special!

“Although Niall has been friends with my brother since their childhood, it was a great New Year’s Party at a mutual friends house 8 years ago that started our journey together. I was attending college in Aberdeen in Scotland at the time and was home for Christmas, it turned out to be a worthwhile break from the studies! As cliché as it sounds, I knew pretty much from that night that things were special. I spent a further two years in Scotland after that, between Aberdeen and Glasgow so it meant the relationship was long distance for that period. Unless you know it’s going to be the start of something special, starting a relationship with someone you know you’ll be apart from for a while can be difficult. Knowing we could get through that gave us a great foundation for our relationship,” explained Siobhan.

The proposal took a few years in coming but it was definitely worth the wait!

“On a cold Friday evening in January 2013, I arrived home from work and was told to pack my bags for a weekend away! I was told I would need my passport and warm clothes. This had never happened before! We drove to and stayed in Dublin that Friday night and the next morning we were on a plane…destination beautiful Paris! We checked into a lovely hotel and spent the day walking around the many beautiful sights of the city, ending up at the Eiffel Tower. I’m not sure if it was the nerves or the cold, but I was shaking! There was no getting down on one knee, no public displays, to everyone else we were just two tourists amongst the crowds but for us it was just perfect. Afterwards over a few glasses of Champagne, we contacted our friends and family to share our news. It’s a weekend we will never forget,” Siobhan added.

Not long after they got engaged Siobhan and Niall started planning their dream day. Their priorities for the day were simple, they wanted a day where everyone could be at ease and enjoy the day as much as they would. Siobhan wanted a personalised day that reflected them as a couple and weren’t afraid to call on family members to lend a hand when needed, especially with DIY skills, driving bridesmaids, the readings and lots of unique touches that made their day very special. Top of the list for booking was The Dunraven Arms Hotel, the hotel ticked all the boxes for them and they didn’t visit any other venues. Thanks to friends weddings Siobhan also knew she wanted Emily to capture the day and Rachelle Guiry to do her makeup. Siobhans talented mum made their wedding cake, whilst her brother engraved slate for them to use as table numbers, and her brother-in-law made wooden easel stands for them.

“Another brother made our table plan for us and I bought lace trimming which we used to tie the cloth napkins over a few glasses of wine a couple of nights before the wedding! We joked during the speeches the family were branching into the wedding business!” said Siobhan.

“My favourite part – the dress!! This was definitely my thing and I did a lot of research and visited many beautiful bridal shops. As I tried on many dresses and even though all were one more beautiful than the other I was beginning to get a little anxious as none were the illustrious ‘one’! It was beginning to be a little more difficult than I had anticipated but then I visited Myrtle Ivory and tried on the ‘Symphony Dress’ dress by Stephanie Allin. I loved it and everything about it and it felt like my dress. I could see myself getting married in this dress. It was so easy to wear, I added a very simple veil and after that all I needed was a pair of shoes!” explained Siobhan, “We purchased our beautiful Jim Hjelm bridesmaid dresses in Bridal Heaven in Swords, Co. Dublin. The colour we chose was ‘Taupe’. One of my bridesmaids is living in Australia so the first time she got to see dress in real life was a week before the wedding! But it worked out perfectly and she loved it!”

“The day itself from start to finish was perfect. Of course there may have been little bumps along the way on the day, but nothing that could stop Niall and I making the most of the day. We enjoyed the beautiful ceremony and took time to meet as many guests as possible during the day, but once the music started we were on the dance floor for the night! We had great fun and can only thank our amazing guests for joining with us and helping make the day so special. For me the highlight of the day was walking up the aisle with my dad. Our flowergirls and page boy had just walked ahead so I was a little emotional! I held my dad’s hand soo tight and all I could see ahead as we walked was Niall standing at the top of the aisle. Great memories!” said Siobhan.

Advice for other couples

Everyday life does have to continue while you are planning a wedding, so take the time and plan as best you can. Try and book as much as early as possible, especially if there is something in particular you want as things do book up quite quickly.

Take care of yourself! I’ve heard it from others through work and I experienced it myself, it is a common time for your immune system to decide to take a break so plenty of water, sleep and a good multivitamin! (Siobhan is a pharmacist, so she knows!!)

And finally remember the day is for you and your husband. Everything you have put into the wedding has been for the both of you, even the things you think other people won’t notice, you will! So forget worrying about others, once you and your husband are happy others will see and feed from this so it is worth spending the time preparing a day that is a reflection of you both.
