Kenya

One of the first activities that comes to mind when most people think of adventure is safari. Seeing one of Africa’s Big 5; lions, elephants, leopards, rhinoceros or buffalo, up close and in the wild is a truly amazing experience, made even better when you get to share it with the person you love.

With year-round game viewing, Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the best places to start ticking some of the Big 5 off your list. The reserve is also well-known for its great wildebeest migration, which sees over 1 million wildebeests and 200,000 zebras and gazelles make their way from the Serengeti to the hills of Maasai Mara.

Aside from the Masai Mara Reserve, there are also a number of other excellent places to get up close to incredible wildlife in Kenya including the Lake Nakuru National Park, Amboseli National Park and the Tsavo West National Park.

Cuba

If heading on safari is still a little bit too wild for you, why not consider visiting Cuba, a country that offers the buzz and excitement of visiting an exotic destination but also gives honeymooners the opportunity to relax on a beach, should they feel the urge!

If you’re looking to put a bit of spice into your honeymoon you will definitely find it in the vibrant city of Havana. For an exotic day out, take your other half for a mojito at the famous Hotel Nacional before heading to the Saturday Rumba at El Gran Palenque where you can grab your partner close as you both sway to the rhythmic Afro-Cuban beats.

After all of the excitement of Havana, a few days in the beautiful resort town of Varadero will be just what the doctor ordered. Here, you fill find the oh-so-popular white sand beaches and crystal blue seas. You will also find so much more including amazing wildlife at the Varahicacos Ecological Reserve and fantastic days out at locations such as the The Saturno Caves where you can swim in cool waters surrounded by ancient stalactites and stalagmites.

Kerala

Although the pace of life is slow in this idyllic Indian destination, there is still plenty of exciting and alternative things to see and do which makes Kerala different from the typical beach side honeymoon.

Couples wishing to explore a new and fascinating city together will be blown away by the region’s port city of Kochi. Here, you will discover architectural influences from a mix of cultures in the city’s various landmarks such as the Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue and 14th Chinese fishing nets.

After soaking up some culture the two of you could then take a trip to Periyar, the spice plantation hub of Kerala, and learn all about one of India’s most famous exports before visiting the area’s evergreen forests to catch a glimpse of lions, tigers, elephants and bears.

If you want some real one on one time, board a traditional thatched roof houseboat and explore Kerala’s labyrinth like networks of lagoons and lakes. While aboard you’ll be able to revel in your married bliss as you both enjoy delicious local cuisine and beautiful scenery such as lush rice fields and leafy coconut groves.
