Life’s A Breeze! Midsummer Wedding at Huntington Castle

By  |

Irish film producer, Aoife first met her Swedish film lighting technician husband, Robin on set in Sweden when they were filming an Irish Swedish co-production called Life’s A Breeze. After three months of keeping in touch the couple met again and knew quickly that they were perfect together. Today we’re delighted to share their Irish wedding at Huntington Castle, which features many Swedish elements, thanks to Circus Photography for sharing with us.

“Robin proposed at Phoenix Park in July 2014 on the hottest day of the year. I had taken the day off work as his friends were visiting us. The zoo was where we went on our first Irish date the first time Robin was in Ireland. Due to work it had been a few weeks since we had seen each other so the plan was to have a lovely date day together and then meet his friends that evening. The sun was shining, Robin was here, I had the day off work and was going to the Zoo, I didn’t think the day could get much better!” explained Aoife.

Of course Robin had a plan to make the day better! “After failing to find a nice quiet spot at the Dublin Zoo, I suggested we stroll back through the Phoenix Park and due to the sweltering heat thought it best that we sit down and have a little rest. So we found a lovely spot to sit down on an old tree stump under the shade of the trees, where I very nervously got down on one knee and with an almost stable voice popped the question, and she said yes!” said Robin.

The couple were keen to have a very relaxed personal wedding day and chose the glorious surroundings of Huntington Castle in Clonegall.

“The first thing we did was make our guest list, which was the only part we found stressful! I have a huge family and Robins is a lot smaller, and because the venue could only hold a certain amount we were limited to the amount of friends we could invite. The first list we made was huge, and it was really really hard to get it down, but I think most people understand that you just can’t invite everyone sadly! We actually got married officially in the registry office in Dublin on Wednesday the 24th, with just our immediate family, and then had a friend perform a ceremony for us on the Friday with everyone in the local church. We designed the ceremony ourselves, and it was a bit nerve-wracking as we didn’t know how it would turn out, but it was lovely,” said Aoife.

With a blue and orange colour scheme, blue to represent Sweden and orange representing Ireland, the couple used the time of year, Midsummer to help tie their theme down, using it on their invitations and wedding stationery.

“I am used to working to deadlines and budgets and I love spreadsheets, so I think this all combined helped a lot to make it pretty stress free and relaxed organising. We also have the best family and friends who were a huge help, from making decorations – my sister made 162 little bride and groom pegs for the place names!- to putting them up, making and icing the cake, arranging the lights, the list goes on and we couldn’t have done it without them all,” added Aoife.

“The whole day was brilliant! Having all your family and friends around you is an amazing feeling. We had so many family and friends travel home for the wedding some of whom I hadn’t seen in a few years, so it was amazing to see them all. Walking in to the church with my dad and walking out with Robin was just lovely, two very special moments I will never forget,” said Aoife.

“The whole day was great. Watching Aoife walk in the church with her dad was probably the biggest moment though,” added Robin.

Aoife’s Advice

Don’t get stressed. Make a list, Excel is brilliant for this, and try as get as much done as early as possible so you can enjoy the build up, and make sure you shop around for different quotes.  Remember that it doesn’t matter if anything goes wrong, because at the end of the day you will be married to the love of your life, and will be surrounded by all your family and friends, and nothing can take away from that amazing feeling.
