Relaxed Humanist Wedding at Bridge House Hotel by Joe Conroy Photography

Mags and Dave are one of the smiliest couples we’ve had on Mrs2be. Their smiles are infectious, so clearly the fun and relaxed wedding day they planned was just that! We adore the rich jewel tones Mags chose for her ‘maids and for her floral bouquets. Thanks to Joe Conroy Photography for sharing their Humanist wedding with us.

After meeting through mutual friends in 2006, Mags and Dave spent over three years living in Darwin, Australia. It was here that Dave chose and bought an engagement ring, but he kept it a secret until they were back in Ireland celebrating Mags’ sister’s wedding.

“A few days after the wedding, just before we were due to fly back to Darwin we brought our dog, Bán, for a walk up to the Glenbarrow Waterfalls in the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Once we reached the rock pools and having plucked up the courage Dave said ever so romantically “Hey give me the dog lead and you take this” handing me the most perfect ring I have ever seen! I love that he bought my ring in Darwin as we had been living there for over three years at the time and now that we’re living back home every time I look at it I think of Darwin and it makes me smile,” explained Mags.

Mags and Dave weren’t keen on a big or overly traditional wedding and they quickly settled on a Humanist ceremony and reception at The Bridge House Hotel in Tullamore.

“The entertainment was the most important thing for us so we booked it after setting the date and venue. We were very lucky when it came to booking our first choices of venue, ceremony singer, band and DJ. We contacted Transmitter, who are our favourite band. They are absolutely fantastic and so much fun, we were overjoyed that they were available as we know how busy they are. I grew up with the bass player Wayne and it was fantastic to have one of my very first best friends play at my wedding, it made it so much more personal,” added Mags.

Mags wore an embellished gown from The Bridal Hall in Ballybrittas, which was chosen by her mum.

“My sister had made the appointment for me and once we got there I realised I hadn’t a clue what style of dress or material I liked! Within five minutes the owners, Breda and Caroline, were whipping out dresses they knew instantly would suit me. I have to credit my Mam though for suggesting I try the dress I bought, the minute I put it on I knew it was the dress for me,” said Mags.

“Our day was amazing, we literally laughed and had fun the whole day from start to finish! My highlight was marrying my best friend,” added Mags.

Mags’ Advice

Do what you both want and don’t let anyone tell you how you have to do things, it’s your day not theirs. Don’t stress over every single thing because at the end of the day it’s about you both and your love for each other, not the dress or the rings or the flowers!
