Vibrant Vintage Wedding at The Landmark Hotel

Katie and Shane’s wedding was full of fun. They had fun at the fairground, rode in a vintage Ford Capri and shared a First Look before their ceremony. Thanks to The Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon and Deryck Tormey Photography for sharing their vibrant celebration.

“Shane and I met at my cousin Grainne’s 21st birthday in 2007, in Jamestown the village where my parents live. Shane’s friend was dating Grainne so they came down for the party. We met in the pub beside the church where we got married,” said Katie.

“I went abroad for a year for college and we found a long distance relationship tough but we both knew we were in it together. When I came back I asked Katie to move in with me and we made plans for our future together,” said Shane.

Almost seven years after they first met Shane planned a romantic and fun proposal;

“We had planned to go out for dinner and meet friends, but when we got to the restaurant we got a call saying they were running late and we were to go ahead and eat without them. When we were finished eating we rang them and they said they were in the Candle Bar at Kelly’s Hotel and that we were to meet them there. When we got there the place was empty, there were candles everywhere and a bottle of Prosecco chilling on the table. I discovered our friends were never meant to meet us, it was all a scheme to have me dressed up and Shane proposed to me there. It was very romantic. He had booked the penthouse suite at the hotel and our friends that were in on the plan came and met us for drinks to celebrate,” explained Katie.

The couple knew they would get married in the church across the road from Katie’s parents house and that they wanted Shane’s uncle to marry them.

“With those two details sorted we then went looking for a venue. We went to look at The Landmark Hotel and we were amazed by everything they had to offer and we knew it was the perfect spot for our reception. In choosing the Landmark Hotel we were so lucky that they have a dedicated wedding coordinator and that was invaluable in terms of both ideas and preparing for the big day itself. Having someone like that who can help you out really takes the pressure of so if at all possible that is great to have. We were also so lucky that a lot of our friends and family pitched in and helped with lots of creative bits and pieces from the music to the origami centre pieces. Everyone indulged us in our creative fantasies!” said Katie.

The couple decided to introduce vibrant shades of purple and lilac into their day. Although it was an unconscious decision, a vintage theme emerged because of Katie’s tea length wedding dress from Dirty Fabulous.

“Our day was brilliant although our flower girl, Shane’s niece was very ill and didn’t manage to walk down the aisle. It was a pity she was so unwell but we were just so glad that she was able to come. I loved that we did the first look before we had the wedding at the Church. It was so intimate as we met at the top of my parent’s garden, just us and the photographer and videographer! It gave us a chance to see each other and take a moment to appreciate the day and talk to each other about how we felt because in the Church and after you don’t get a minute to take it all in. We were lucky that the weekend of our wedding Carrick Carnival was taking place, so we took advantage and visited the funfair that was on behind our reception venue and had fun taking photos there,” explained Katie.

“My highlight was seeing the 1977 Ford Capri Katie had arranged as a surprise for me! Katie had arranged the classic car to collect me from the Landmark and bring me and my groomsmen to the church. I hadn’t expected it at all. It was really cool and I got to drive it before the church. I’ve always wanted one and to just have it for an hour was great,” said Shane.
