Are you DIYing?

Just wondering are many of you doing much DIY for your wedding.

im not going to touch the invitations as I want them to be perfect and not look homemade, but I really like the idea of adding DIY elements to the decor of the venue.

Pare there any brides out there who have done this for their wedding? Is it worth the time and effort?

I'm DIYing loads but crafting is a bit of a hobby of mine so even before the wedding it has provided me with endless hours of entertainment.

- the save the dates are bookmarks with a personalised stamp and ribbons, our invites will be based on library borrower cards, I've made 150 yards of fabric bunting (tho no sewing involved), I made tea light holders using jam jars, lace, ribbons and book pages. I'm decorating my unity candles with dried flowers. I built a fabric coloured pinboard for my escort cards, and glued cute buttons onto thumb tacks to attach the cards with.

I'll be making place cards by punching kraft card with a large heart punch, and gluing lace on to the end with the name written (by my sister with lovely handwriting) in between.

I'm also making the biscuit layer of my cake... my mum and future mum in law will make the fruit cake layers and my sister will decorate the whole thing with fondant icing and flowers.

oh nosietoes, I love it! I'm looking at some of those too, when you say no sewing bunting - did you glue them down? Did you do any letters on the bunting?

I'll be doing lots of bits and pieces too. We are having a very informal wedding, and so any decorations that we will have will have to be done by me DIY!

2ndtime if I were you I'd have a look around at what things you might like to DIY and then look at how long it would actually take to do and if you've people to help out  too, might be an option. Might help you decide whether to do it or not!

I used pinking sheers to cut out each triangle and then glued the front to the back. Then I stapled the triangles onto bias binding. Up close, its not the most elegant but when its hanging from the ceiling, it'll look perfect. I didn't use any letters, no. Just lots of contrasting patterns mainly in pinks and greys.

I think if you are going to do DIY, you need to make decisions fairly early on so you don't end up a couple of weeks out frantically gluing and cutting! I hope to have everything finished by May except for the cake. I don't have much left to do to be honest - the invites and the unity candles, and the cones for the pew end arrangements. Oh and the service booklets might take a bit of time - still waiting for the rev to get back to me with a copy of the service they use!

Hi girls! I love a bit of craft but I'm living in Australia and getting married in Cork so the logistics are hard. I made our invitations by making recycled paper with paper and purple flowers and printing the invite on cream textured paper which I attached to Kraft card and the handmade paper with string. I then folded over the handmade paper into the middle twice so it opens out and tied it with string and a sprig of lavender and our personalise stamp! I love them so much and my mum has brought then home as she was visiting at Christmas!

I want to do more but won't push it as I'll only have two weeks before the wedding and don't want to be stressed! I want to gather/collect things to use as centre pieces and diy those-does anyone know where to buy wholesale flowers in Cork/Clon??

Oh I'm loving the ideas here, I'm getting married in June & am busy collecting jam jars, going to try tackle my invites & also hoping to make bunting too. I'm not very DIYish but going to give it a go & see how I get on. Exciting times x

I'm actually thinking about doing the invites! If I do that, I don't think I'm going to commit to anything else though. I don't want too many loose ends leading up to the day. I think it would be too stressful. On the plus side though, I think wedding decorations are totally overpriced and useless after the day. It's a tough decision to make...

I would be totally into diying helped my cousin last summer decorate her venue, do her invites, her mass booklets and cupcakes for the reception and her church flowers and flower girl basket. However I'm not doing as much for my own as I have a friend who makes wedding invites professionally and she offered me personally designed invites and mass booklets as a gift. I am making my own table plan. I wanted something original so it is a tractor theme based on my fiances job. And I'm diying my candy table. Small amount of my church decorations.

I'd so love to see pics of all the stuff everyone is doing! What's an escort card?

So far all lm doing is the candy table!

An escort card is a little card with your name on it and your table number or name on the other side. Or else traditionally an envelope with your name and your table name/number on a card inside.

I've made gold glitter table numbers and love how they turned out! I'm about half way through doing the invitations. Think that's all the DIY I'm doing!

Im painting wine bottles for my centrepieces, will be doing the table plan and thats about it. I love the diy element but im not crafty at all! will be doing the mass booklets as scrolls myself but that doesnt take a lot of effort. Pinterest is great for coming up with ideas. I saw the cutest thing for the tables, it's a '5 things you didnt know about the bride' and on the back '5 things you didnt know about the groom', thought it'd be a great talking point at the tables
